JK Rowling's agent has dismissed newspaper reports there will be an eighth Harry Potter novel despite her vow to only write seven.

The Scotsman newspaper said film studio Warner Bros's registration of three Harry Potter titles as trademarks, took the total number of titles to eight.

The titles Harry Potter and the Alchemist's Cell, Harry Potter and the Chariots of Light and Harry Potter and the Pyramids of Furmat were registered with the UK Patent Office's Trademark Database in April 2000.

The new film is eagerly-awaited

But Rowling's representatives, Christopher Little literary agents, said that whatever the studio's reason for registering the titles there was no possibility of an eighth book.

Spokesman Neil Blair told BBC News Online: "There is absolutely no truth in the story that either there is going to be an eighth book in the series or that these titles are genuine title for the sixth and seventh books."

Potter fan sites have traded gossip about the mysterious titles for some time before The Scotsman report.

Second film

Rowling, currently completing the fifth novel Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, said she would stop writing about the boy wizard after the seventh book.

Rowling's first four books about Harry Potter, the Philosopher's Stone, the Chamber of Secrets, the Prisoner of Azkaban and the Goblet of Fire, have sold tens of millions of copies.

Potter-mania will be in full effect when the second film adaptation Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets opens in the UK and US on 15 November.

The first film is reported to have earned over $900m (�581.6m) in total revenue since opening last year.
