Blueprints used to build Star Wars space craft the Millennium Falcon sold for a knock-down �5,200 at auction on Thursday when they failed to reach their estimated value.

The three sets of blueprints had been given an estimated price of �6,000-�7,500.

Just 90 of more than 200 lots found buyers at the film and television memorabilia sale at the Cooper Owen auction house in London.

The most expensive item - the helmet worn by Tom Hanks in Saving Private Ryan - failed to reach its reserve price.

The Millennium Falcon blueprints attracted the highest bids of the day.

They were used to build the 32-tonnes ship that was constructed in south Wales before being moved to film studios near London.

The Tom Hanks helmet was expected to be another prize lot.

Harry Potter's letter from Hogwarts was among the most expensive lots

But bidding only reached �2,800. It was estimated to be worth �3,500-�4,000.

Props from the first Harry Potter film were also for sale, and a letter of acceptance from Hogwarts telling the young magician he had won a place to the school fetched �1,600.

A replica puppet from the Joe 90 TV series, valued at �800-�1,200, exceeded expectations by selling for �1,400.

Among the unsold lots were two rare Marilyn Monroe items.

A drawing by the star when she was just 12 fell short of its �1,500 value, while a pair of sandal stilettos worn after she found fame failed to reach its estimated price of �1,200.

A beaded top worn by Judy Garland on her television show was also left unsold, failing to reach its expected price of �1,500.
