Raworth is leaving BBC Breakfast in the new year, while her colleague Jeremy Bowen quits next month. Brandreth is Edinburgh winner Former Conservative MP Gyles Brandreth has won the first Strathmore Select Audience Award at this year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He picked up the prize for his show Zipp! 100 Musicals in 90 Minutes, which sees him appear as a variety of characters from famous shows. "As a former Conservative MP I am not used to seeing happy smiling faces so the whole Edinburgh experience has been quite a shock," he said of his win. Brandreth found fame in the 1980s on breakfast TV, as well as the daytime quiz show Countdown. Norton on wish list, says BBC boss BBC One boss Lorraine Heggessey has admitted that comedian Graham Norton is top of her wish list for the channel. Speaking at the Edinburgh Television Festival, Ms Heggessey has admitted that she would love to sign Norton, who has a seven-figure deal with Channel 4. The comic, who said Spears was "a good sport," added, "She didn't even realise it was a gag. I don't know why. I think she was so impressed to speak to Celine Dion." Audette and fellow comic Sebastian Trudel - known as the Masked Avengers - are well-known in Canada for fooling famous people on their radio show. Gibson influenced by 'supernatural' Actor Mel Gibson has revealed how a near-death experience led him to believe in supernatural forces. The 46-year-old narrowly escaped death 25 years ago when he drove into the path of an uncoming lorry while driving up a hazardous mountain road. "It was a miracle that I wasn't killed...it made me realise there are bigger things than ourselves out there." Gibson's new film Signs, currently number one at the US box office, sees him starring as a clergyman whose family is plagued by crop circles and other unexplained events. | Top Entertainment stories now: Links to more Entertainment stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
