| Sunday, 11 August, 2002, 12:00 GMT 13:00 UK Oasis 'hopeful' about resuming tour ![]() The band have had to disppoint US fans Rock band Oasis have said they hope guitarist and singer Noel Gallagher will be well enough to do a New York concert on Sunday, following a head-on car crash last week. The guitarist was still in shock after suffering heavy facial bruising, whiplash and shock after Tuesday's collision in which Gallagher and another band member were injured. He is awaiting his doctor's verdict on whether he is fit enough to resume the US tour, having already cancelled a number of shows. The band's UK spokeswoman said Gallagher was taking prescribed painkillers, adding: "Everyone involved is still hopeful that the band will be able to continue with their tour."
The crash, which took place after the band's taxi was hit by another vehicle in Indianapolis, Indiana, resulted in Gallagher and guitarist Andy Bell being taken to hospital by ambulance. Gallagher was reportedly hit in the face by a car's airbag while wearing sunglasses, and both musicians were treated for shock, cuts and bruises. Keyboardist Jay Darlington, former member of UK band Kula Shaker who was recruited by Oasis for the tour, was also hurt.
The US tour has already faced early setbacks after Noel lost his passport and his brother, singer Liam, was forced to retire from the first show because of voice problems. Their latest album, Heathen Chemistry, is currently at number four in the UK album chart, while it is sliding down the US chart and is currently at number 169 after five weeks on release. | See also: 08 Aug 02 | Entertainment 07 Aug 02 | Entertainment 05 Aug 02 | Entertainment 02 Aug 02 | Entertainment 07 Aug 02 | Entertainment Top Entertainment stories now: Links to more Entertainment stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
