| Friday, 9 August, 2002, 08:35 GMT 09:35 UK Touts 'prey' on Bollywood event ![]() Shah has been dubbed "the Indian Tom Cruise" A Bollywood superstar's appearance at the Edinburgh Film Festival could be a target for ticket touts, festival organisers fear. Shah Rukh Khan - nicknamed the "King of Bollywood" - is to discuss his career on stage, but alarm bells were raised when a caller tried to buy all 200 remaining tickets.
Khan, 36, is one of the biggest names in Indian cinema, and has been dubbed "the Indian Tom Cruise". "We knew it would be huge but we never thought someone would try and buy all the remaining seats," a spokeswoman for the Edinburgh International Film Festival said. "We've had some block bookings already from schools and groups of people but we are now looking into those to check they were legitimate."
The UGC cinema, where the talk will take place on 24 August, expects to be besieged by fans. "Any touting could stop a lot of other people buying tickets," a spokesman for the cinema said. Three of his films - Asoka, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge and Kabhi Kaushi Kabhi Gham - are being screened during the festival. Khan has picked up a string of awards during his career, and filmed one of his biggest hits, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, in Scotland in 1999. | See also: 07 Aug 02 | Entertainment 10 Jun 02 | Entertainment 30 Jul 02 | South Asia 12 Jul 02 | South Asia 10 Jul 02 | Entertainment 11 Jun 02 | Entertainment 03 May 02 | Entertainment 07 Jan 02 | Asia 12 Jul 02 | Entertainment 19 Jul 02 | Entertainment Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Entertainment stories now: Links to more Entertainment stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
