Myers has become the third Austin Powers cast member in the last month to receive the accolade. "It's a long way from playing street hockey in Toronto to having a star in front of the International Love Boutique," he said. Myers, was accompanied by his wife, Robin Ruzan, his mother and two brothers. British actor Michael York, who plays Powers' boss Basil Exposition, received his own star on 28 June, while Robert Wagner's star was unveiled on 16 July in a ceremony attended by Myers. The latest Austin Powers film Goldmember is released in the US and the UK on Friday, and had its world premiere in Los Angeles on Monday night. Myers, Wagner and York all turned out to the premiere of the spy spoof, along with Sir Michael Caine who plays Austin Powers' dad, and Destiny's Child singer Beyonce Knowles, who makes her acting debut in the film.
Myers plays multiple roles in the film, including Austin Powers' arch nemesis Dr Evil, and a new bad guy, Goldmember. The Hollywood Walk Of Fame, one of the area's leading tourist attractions, has been in existence since 1960, with actress Joanne Woodward one of the first celebrities to receive a star. Within 16 months of its opening, 1,558 people from the world of showbusiness had been honoured with a star. Nowadays, approximately two stars are added each month. However the Hollywood Chamber Of Commerce, which administers the Walk Of Fame, says that it will be many years before all the stars are completely occupied. To be given the honour, a celebrity must have achieved fame in film, TV, radio, music or live performance. They must also pay around 11,000 to cover the costs of the ceremony and the making of the star. Martin Scorsese, Robert Duvall, Susan Sarandon, Kevin Bacon and Kermit the Frog are among those who will receive stars next year. | See also: 23 Jul 02 | Entertainment 23 Jul 02 | Entertainment 23 Jun 02 | Entertainment 13 Apr 02 | Entertainment Top Entertainment stories now: Links to more Entertainment stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
