"This is what he would have wished and our love goes out to the remaining band members and the entourage that makes up The Who family." Daltrey and Townshend said they now saw the tour as "a tribute to John Entwistle". The trio had been preparing their first new material since the 1982 album It's Hard. Pino Palladino, a British session player who has worked on Townshend's solo material, will fill in for Entwistle. The three-month tour will take in many states including Ohio, New York, Indiana and Colorado. Artist The death of Entwistle, known as The Ox, sent shockwaves through the world of rock from his peers to loyal Who fans. His sudden death came almost 25 years after The Who's original drummer, Keith Moon, died of an accidental drug overdose. As soon as the news of Entwistle's death was announced floral tributes began being laid outside The Joint nightclub at the Hard Rock Hotel Casino in Las Vegas where The Who were due to perform on Friday night. An exhibition of his art work had just opened at the hotel, showcasing his illustrations, many of which were of his bandmates. The results of post-mortem are not expected to be released for three months, when a full toxicology test will have been completed. |
