The Eminem Show has hung onto the number one spot for the fifth week running, notching up sales of 3.3 million, according to SoundScan chart trackers. The rapper, also known as Slim Shady, beat off competition from another big American act, Papa Roach. The nu-metal rockers had to be content with second place with Lovehatetragedy, which sold 136,000 copies. The previous week rock band Korn had failed to halt the domination of the controversial Eminem.
Although their Untouchables album has slipped just one place to number three, sales dropped by nearly 70% to 132,000 units. The next act to attempt to dethrone Eminem will be rapper Nelly with his Nellyville album. Eminem's Interscope label had been concerned that internet piracy would affect the sales of his album, prompting them to twice bring forward the release date to prevent it being leaked. Ex-Fugees member Wyclef Jean's new offering Masquerade entered the chart at number five. Soundtrack Chart sensation Anastacia dropped in at number 27 with Freak of Nature, featuring the single Paid My Dues. Movie soundtracks are a hit with American audiences, with tastes reflecting the popularity of the films they are taken from. Disney Lilo and Sitch jumped 41 places to number 16 in the first week of the movie's release, just behind the soundtrack from Tom Cruise's latest sci-fi blockbuster Minority Report which is number one in the US film charts. The soundtrack to the live-action cartoon remake Scooby-Doo rose to number 28. | See also: 30 May 02 | Entertainment 28 May 02 | Entertainment 27 May 02 | Entertainment 26 May 02 | Entertainment 21 May 02 | Entertainment 20 May 02 | Entertainment Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Entertainment stories now: Links to more Entertainment stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
