Star pair to tread London boards

Actors Woody Harrelson and Kyle MacLachlan are to add their names to the growing list of Hollywood stars to have appeared on the West End stage.

The pair are to star as brothers in On An Average Day at the Comedy Theatre in central London.

The play centres on an older brother - played by MacLachlan - who returns home to rural upstate New York after 15 years to find his younger brother has retreated into a bizarre private world.

The little-known play, written by John Kolvenbach, examines the American dream, the modern family and sibling relations.

Harrelson and MacLachlan join Nicole Kidman, Madonna, Matt Damon and Gwyneth Paltrow in making their West End debuts.

'Nothing better'

Harrelson said: "I have always dreamed of acting in the West End. Theatre was my first passion and I thought Broadway was always going to be my thing - but I got distracted."

MacLachlan, 43, seen most recently in US series Sex and the City added: "There's nothing better in this job than being on stage."

Harrelson, 40, will have to interrupt rehearsals to answer police bail after being arrested in London earlier this month on suspicion of criminal damage of a taxi.

On An Average Day opens on 10 August with previews from 25 July.
