Sir Elton John is appealing against a legal defeat over millions of pounds in touring costs.

The High Court ruled against the singer last year over a �14m claim.

Sir Elton was left with an estimated �8m legal bill after losing.

Three judges in the Court of Appeal were set to begin hearing his appeal in London on Wednesday.

Sir Elton had sued Andrew Haydon, former managing director of John Reid Enterprises, which for many years was the star's management company, and accountants PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), which looked after his business interests.

In April last year, Mr Justice Ferris, sitting in the High Court in London, ruled that Sir Elton's claim in respect of tour costs failed against both PwC and Mr Haydon.

He rejected claims of negligence against them.

Sir Elton's appeal is only against PwC, which he alleged was negligent in managing his affairs - a claim which was vigorously contested.

Last year's proceedings, with their insight into the star's private life, received large amounts of press coverage.

It was revealed his spending on property and personal items, including �293,000 on flowers, once amounted to almost �40m over a 20-month period.

After Mr Justice Ferris dismissed Sir Elton's claim, PwC said the case had been "wholly without merit".

The judge described Sir Elton as "clearly a man of an uncommonly generous disposition" and a man of great intelligence, but who had "little or no interest in business matters".
