Festival marred by arrests
Basement Jaxx
Basement Jaxx headlined the event
Police have arrested 23 people at the Homelands dance festival near Winchester in Hampshire.

Police said 14 people at the event were detained for drugs offences.

Nine others were held on suspicion of theft, robbery and deception.

All those arrested were taken to police stations in Winchester and Alton for questioning.

Around 400 police officers and support staff were on duty over the weekend as part of Operation Cheesefoot.

Operation co-ordinator Sergeant Richard Stowe said ten sniffer dogs had checked revellers entering the festival grounds. The main arena was kept under police watch.

Drug dogs

Sgt Stowe said Operation Cheesefoot had taken months of planning.

"We are pleased with the passive drug dogs operation as it appeared that smaller amounts of controlled substances were being brought into the festival compared with last year," he said.

Around 30,000 people attended the Homelands festival.

In March, So Solid Crew were dropped from the festival.

The event's organisers said "unprecedented pressure" from Hampshire Police had forced the decision to drop the controversial south London rappers.
