Noel Gallagher has told Now magazine that singer Robbie Williams is a "fake".

The Oasis singer and songwriter said he felt ill after watching the star's recent documentary Nobody Someday - and added he would like to "kick him down the stairs a couple of times."

"I think Robbie is a very, very misguided, easily led, stupid, foolish young individual, who'd definitely benefit from a slapping," he told the magazine.

"I think he needs to be held down by people in white coats and slapped around the face for half an hour. Robbie's the biggest fake ever and yet he thinks he's Elvis."

Conductor collapses on podium

Conductor Louis Langree fainted in front of the orchestra in the packed Glyndebourne opera house on Thursday.

He collapsed as baritone Jonathan Veira sang the famous Leporello Catalogue aria in Mozart's Don Giovanni.

To the hushed audience, Mr Veira calmly announced that the conductor had collapsed and the show would be temporarily halted until stand-in conductor Daisuke Muranaka could take over.

But having been attended to by St John's Ambulance paramedics, Mr Langree was back on the podium 20 minutes later and finished the show to rapturous applause.

Haitink takes over Dresden orchestra

Bernard Haitink has been named as the new chief conductor of the Staatskapelle Dresden, one of Germany's oldest orchestras.

Haitink, 73, will remain the music director at the Royal Opera House in London's Covent Garden until the summer.

The Dutch conductor, regarded as one of the world's great orchestra leaders, will take up his position in Dresden in September 2002.

Born in 1929, he has been chief conductor of Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, principal conductor of the London Philharmonic, and music director of the European Union Youth Orchestra and the Glyndebourne opera house.

Ozzie could join Enfield's chums

Harry Enfield has been studying tapes of MTV reality show The Osbournes for his new comedy series, according to reports.

Staff at production company Tiger Aspect have ordered copies of the show so Enfield can study heavy metal star Ozzy Osbourne.

The comedian's new sitcom, Celeb, is based around an ageing rock star who refuses to give up the rock 'n' roll lifestyle.

A spokeswoman for MTV said: "To have Harry Enfield imitate you is the ultimate form of flattery."

Atomic flame reaches St Paul's

Girl group Atomic Kitten carried the Millennium Flame into St Paul's Cathedral on Thursday during the final leg of the Golden Jubilee summer party relay.

Liz McClarnon and Jenny Frost were representing Cancer Research UK.

The third band member - Natasha Hamilton, who is six months pregnant - did not attend because she was feeling unwell.

The flame will ignite a Golden Jubilee Beacon outside Buckingham Palace on 3 June.
