The star visited a refugee camp in Thailand on Sunday, and was mobbed by children as she handed out footballs and other gifts. She also said she was tempted to adopt another foreign child after taking on a Cambodian baby boy last year.
She flew by helicopter to the Tham Hin camp, west of Bangkok, to visit thousands of refugees from the neighbouring country of Myanmar, formerly known as Burma. "Having been to these camps, I've never been so nervous that a film does justice to the people involved," she said. "My heart's more for here than the film business." Her next film, Beyond Borders, has been criticised for the way it portrays people in Asia and Africa in the 1980s.
"I'm always surprised by the people," she said. "They seem very happy with what little they have. "But obviously, as human beings and after what they have been through - they should have more." Jolie also donated a television, a video player, sports equipment and more than 4,000 sarongs - one for every woman in the camp. Adopt She is married to actor Billy Bob Thornton, and has previously visited Pakistan, Sierra Leone and Namibia. "I would love to adopt another child, from wherever there is a need," she told reporters. "My husband's nervous every time I go to another country. "For me it makes perfect sense to go to an orphanage and find a child that needs a home." | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Showbiz stories now: Links to more Showbiz stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
