| Thursday, 16 May, 2002, 16:57 GMT 17:57 UK Cameron TV series 'cancelled' ![]() Titanic won 11 Oscars in 1998 Not everything that Titanic director James Cameron touches turns out to be a hit, after reports that his TV series Dark Angel is to be axed in the US. The futuristic show, starring Jessica Alba, is to be cancelled after just two seasons, reports the Daily Variety trade newspaper.
But despite making a star out of its lead actress, the show was not a big enough ratings success on Fox TV. Debut Dark Angel, which is shown on Sky One in the UK, averaged six million viewers in the US. Cameron, who co-created the series, made his TV directing debut on what turned out to be the show's series finale, which aired earlier this month.
He has yet to announce which film he will direct next, instead concentrating on Dark Angel. The show's Friday night slot will be filled by Firefly, a space Western from Joss Whedon, the creator of the hit franchise Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Daily Variety said. Mr Whedon has promised a different kind of sci-fi drama with the characters being more "real" and "working class" than the average futuristic heroes. Buffy is shown on the BBC and Sky One in the UK. | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top TV and Radio stories now: Links to more TV and Radio stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
