The star has been seen in newspapers with a blooded nose after an altercation at the Star Wars premire in London. But he told a concert less than 24 hours later: "The great thing about being a pop star is you can afford a good nose job." Jay Kay and the photographer have made allegations of assault against each other, and are due to be interviewed by police. Jamiroquai, who were one of the world's biggest-selling acts of the late 1990s, played an intimate show for 300 fans in Ealing, west London, on Wednesday.
The band played at Ealing's Broadway Boulevard as part of a festival taking bands back to the venues where they first started. Metropolitan Police have said both men involved have indicated that they will press charges. "[Jay Kay] will be interviewed, as will the other person concerned, and this is likely to take some days," a spokesman told BBC News Online. "They have both made an allegation of assault. They have both indicated that they are making the matter official." The singer suffered cuts on his nose and face after the incident in St Martin's Lane, Covent Garden, at 0125 BST on Wednesday. The Jamiroquai star had assault charges against him dropped in November last year due to insufficient evidence. He had denied assaulting a photographer and smashing his camera equipment outside a London nightclub. Sworn and shouted That incident came just two months after his high-profile split from girlfriend of three years, Denise Van Outen. And after the Brit awards in February, the star was reported to have sworn and shouted at photographers. Jamiroquai have had worldwide success with five albums, the first of which catapulted them to the big time in 1993. Their hit singles have included Deeper Underground, Too Young to Die, Virtual Insanity and Cosmic Girl. As well as success with the funk band, Jay Kay is known for his taste in unusual hats and his love of sports cars. | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Showbiz stories now: Links to more Showbiz stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
