| Monday, 13 May, 2002, 09:47 GMT 10:47 UK Tribeca festival ends with awards ![]() Martin Scorsese joined De Niro for the awards ceremony New York's Tribeca film festival has ended with an award ceremony for emerging movie makers. The new festival, created by actor Robert De Niro and his business partner, Jane Rosenthal, is intended to help revitalise the city's Lower East Side - close to the area devastated by the 11 September attacks on the US. The best narrative feature award went to Rodger Dodger, the story of a New York teenager starring Campbell Scott, Elizabeth Berkley, Jennifer Beals and Isabella Rosellini and directed by Dylan Kidd.
It explores the struggles of two American Indian players in the Wyoming Indiana High School basketball team. Another documentary award, for best short film, went to All Water Has A Perfect Memory by director Natalia Almada, about a family's loss of a child. The best narrative award was given to Bamboleho from director Luis Prieto, about a child who lives on rooftops in Barcelona in Spain. Student award New Yorker Eric Eason was named best emerging filmmaker for his first feature length movie, Manito.
The student award went to Marcin Wrona for Magnet Man, about a conflict between a boy and his father. Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal had mooted the idea of a Tribeca film festival for some years, but were moved to act after the attack on the World Trace Center.
