Channel 4 has been criticised by a TV watchdog after it broadcast a programme containing swear words before the watershed.

Viewers complained to the Independent Television Commission (ITC) after the strong language was heard in the documentary Bunking Off.

The programme, broadcast on 5 March, was about children playing truant from school and was broadcast at 2000 GMT.

According to the Channel 4, the inclusion of the bad language was a mistake as it should have been edited out.

The ITC said it was "language of the most offensive kind" that breached its Programme Code because it was broadcast before 2100 GMT.

Channel 4 apologised, saying there had been an "oversight" in the final editing stages of Bunking Off.

Meanwhile, the ITC rejected complaints about ITV1's reality TV series Survivor.

Viewers complained about scenes showing contestants in the programme eating live insects and crustaceans.

Viewers thought it was unacceptable but the regulator said no programme rules were breached.

Survivor sees 12 contestants marooned on a remote island, battling it out to be the one to win a �1m.

They are divided into two tribes and set physical and mental challenges as they are whittled down to one eventual winner.

As well as taking part in the tough tests, the contestants have to concentrate on the fundamentals of life, such as feeding and clothing themselves.
