Gwyneth Paltrow plays 25-year-old Catherine, who is trying to get over her father's death
Can Gwyneth prove her skills on stage?
Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow has left the bright lights of Los Angeles behind to appear in David Auburn's play, Proof, at London's Donmar Warehouse.

She follows in the footsteps of fellow actress Nicole Kidman, who enjoyed critical acclaim when she appeared at the Donmar in the Blue Room in 1998.

Proof is directed by John Madden, who also directed Shakespeare in Love - Paltrow won the best actress Oscar for her role as Viola de Lesseps in the film in 1999.

"She had charisma and confidence, proving as capable on stage as she is on screen and disappointing those hoping for some obvious mistakes" wrote BBC News Online's Ian Youngs.

"But there was also awkwardness, which could be put down to the fact that it was her first appearance on such an arena - but which stopped it becoming a great performance," he added.

But what do you think?

Was the Oscar-winning actress as convincing on stage as she is on film? What did you think of the play itself?

HAVE YOUR SAY

Paltrow is average as a screen actress and bordering on appalling as a stage actress. Wooden and forced.
Ryan O'Brien, UK

I saw the first saturday performance and I thought Gwyneth was amazing. She was gave a very strong and emotional performance. I thought she was amazing!
Jeanne, USA

I'm not a huge fan of Ms. Paltrow; I find her screen performances to be hit or miss, but I found her performance beyond acceptable here. As Catherine, she presents a great deal of both emotional depth and stage quality. The rest of the cast is strong support. The play itself is at times flimsy and certainly not as brilliant as I expected, yet it is gripping and, at times, quite meaningful.
Abby Waters, UK
