| Tuesday, 30 April, 2002, 09:44 GMT 10:44 UK Auf Wiedersehen Pet: Your views ![]() Pet's sharp boys: Is the new series a hit? Auf Wiedersehen Pet was a popular ITV comedy drama series in the 1980s about a group of brick layers from Newcastle who go to Germany in search of work. The BBC has now made a new series with the original cast, 16 years after the last episode was aired. "It is a diverting hour, and while that may be enough when coupled to nostalgia for the old show, it is not enough to fill six episodes," wrote the BBC's William Gallagher. But what do you think? Should they have left well alone? Or is this a welcome return for the Pet boys? Here is a selection of BBC News Online users' views. Brilliant - welcome back boys!! It took some time to get used to them again, especially in a differemt format from the ITV shows, which worked a treat with advert breaks for the jokes. The BBC's version was a lot more sedate it seemed and thereore more subtle on the old joke-o-meter. Fortuntately, the writers allowed the old characters to come back into the story and when Oz laid out the dealer on the ground in his own inimitable style, I knew things would get better and so it did. Good to have them back. The most disappointing part of the show was the theme tune - did it have one? They really should have used something similar to the Joe Fagin songs of series one and two. A bit slow to start, but it's shaping up to be as good as the original.
Paul F, England This new series is long overdue. When is it going to be shown in Australia? How about changing the title to Auf Wiedersehen Viewers? A slow start. I will give it another week to improve, just out of nostalgia.
Kenny Craig, Scotland I thought it was well written and engaging right from the start. It is great to see what has happened to the characters in the meantime. I agree, where is the theme tune? Doesn't BBC have the rights? I found myself humming it when I saw the programme start, it came from somewhere in my memory. Having seen the first series and thoroughly enjoyed them I was a bit dubious that a second series so long after the first would be any good. I'm glad to say I have really enjoyed the new series. The writing and the actors are great. Can't wait for the next episode. Fantastic! As a Middlesbrough local, sitting through my housemates berating my "scummy" hometown and seeing the boys back just made me feel an adverse pride. The forgotten tribe, as Tim Healey (Dennis) said, try the forgotten region. Well done Dick and Ian and all the boys, Can't get enough of it!!!
Chris, Geordieland I thought the original Auf Weidersehen Pet series where the best comedy/drama ever. Since then all the cast have been out on their own with excellent results. Now to see them all united again is fantastic, and the first episode certainly was just that. How could it ever fail with such a strong and popular set of actors and characters as these? Worth the 16 year wait . . . . Absolutely!!! It was great to see the boys all back together again! It did start a bit slower, but we are all meeting the characters all over again and being reaquainted! All bar one of the original cast are back! So that surely will be the recipe for the future success of this brilliant series!!! Loved it.. Already some classic moments and it is only episode one. Barry's "tomato sauce sachet" speech! Neville and Brenda still at each others throats...Oz still wears baggy Y fronts and rumour has it that they'll all end up back in a hut. Don't think I'll be off to the pub on a Sunday for the next few weeks.
Nick, England All lavish locations, lavish clothes and lavish cars, it is not the same. The camara work is too glossy and the acting is so static and wooden that the characters don't seem real. Also, the new character in the gang doesn't fit in at all well. I will give it one more viewing, but if it continues to rely on the past, it will fail. At last, something decent on TV on a sunday night. Now how about cancelling all those feel good dramas about doctors/nurses/policemen in an England that never was? I thought it was excellent. But why did they have to change the theme tune???
Russell, UK I've waited years hoping for a new series and I wasn't disappointed! Gary Holton's death (Wayne) was bound to leave a gap but the bumbling Barry (Timothy Spall) proved hilarious as ever. He just had to appear on screen and I was chuckling away! Welcome back the Magnificent Seven!! Fantastic! Thoroughly enjoyed the first episode, especially as Oz hasn't changed a bit! I agree about the music though, could have been better. The first episode was simply brilliant - it just proves that top class actors like the magnificent...er..6 never lose their touch and that the brilliance of original writers of the show Clement & Le Frenais is still there. It is back with a bang, bring on next Sunday!
Jamie, UK Well done BBC. It was so good to see a series that was so enjoyable to watch. The old faces again but a really enjoyable hour's entertainment. I am looking forward to the future episodes. If it started off this slow, it does not bode well for the rest of the series. Some classic programmes are best left in the past, this is one of them. Brilliant - great to see them all back. Can't wait for the next episode. Wayne will be sadly missed though.
Paul Armstrong, UK It was great to see the boys back, series one and two were such classics, it is going to be hard to match them. Series three started slowly but it had to bring the characters up to date. I have great faith in it and I believe it is still going to be the best thing on British TV this year for sure. One complaint, bring back Joe Fagin, the music was always an integral part of the show and the new music just dosen't cut it. But then as Oz says, I couldn't give a monkey's chuff man! Top stuff, here's to series four as well. Superb, just superb. Like meeting old friends in a riffy pub. Haven't seen it yet, have to wait for the whole series to be taped and sent over. BUT, there is no better character in TV history than Oz, long live the seven...er six and a half? A tremendous accolade to British comedy. Not to be missed.
John, England Welcome back boys, as a brickie by trade, I really related to series one and two, slow start, naff theme tune, the old theme had people singing it on the streets, that was the only real disappointment. I know it will speed up, that's the nature of the characters that two fine writers have created. Oz, you are a hero. P.S. nice to see Butch Dingle still alive (no thanks to Oz)!!!!! It's like an old friend coming home to stay for a while...quality work BBC...nice one! Totally brilliant first part. Same excellent humour. After this six, I hope there will be more. Great start to the new series! Well written, sharp, not over-sentimental and a quick moving story. Same about the theme tune!!!
David Page, UK Fantastic! Classic stuff, well done BBC.Just don't leave it so long next time. Roll on next week. Fantastic to see the lads back on our screens again, have other series on video and watch them often, theme tune a little disappointing....Bring back Joe Fagin songs. Wish the BBC and the cast every success. Fantastic, great to see them back together after 16 years. Very nice to see that Clement & La Frenais have still got the magic touch.
Bryn, UK Fantastic!! The BBC brings back yet another excellent series killed off by other channels. Like some of the other comments, only downside was changing the theme music. Brilliant! A pity it's only going to be six episodes. Nice to see the old touch is still there. Great to see the boys back again. As an avid Aufie fan, I think the new series will measure up to be equally as good as the last two. Great to see the boys back together again. Hard to make a judgement on just one episode. Was definitely lacking something though. Not enough one liners for a start. Definitely shouldn't have changed Barry's character as much as they have. Where's Moxey's stutter gone? I think the series will improve as the weeks go by though. Roll on episode two!!
Simon, England Shame about the music. Slow to start but they have to lay the foundations for the rest of the series and let's not forget the first episodes of the past two series were similar in setting out the story. But great to see them back, looking forward to seeing the next five episodes. I have waited a long time for their return. BRILLIANT!! Well done. BBC America PLEASE!!!!!!
Liz Anderson, England The all time best TV show is back. Was it really 16 years since the last episode? I only hope the six episodes will be enough to satisfy. Great stuff. Truely classic British comedy at its best, who cares about the 16 year gap? These lads were truely magnificent. The creators I am sure will produce a series as good as the one long since past. Hope we get it in New Zealand. Great, it's back. I agree about the theme, but could they really have used the original theme? I also think it seems a bit slow, but there are already a few issues that has me thinking 'Oooh, I wonder what's gonna happen there?' Welcome back guys! The first two series were classics. The first show was slow but the class cast will make it a classic, why did they have to change the theme tune?
James, UK New Aufwiedersehen, Pet, fantastic, Loved it, it's the best thing I have seen on BBC for a very very long time. Was unsure if it would work so many years on, but it has and I will be glued to the TV every Sunday for sure. Well done to whoever decided to recreate it and to the BBC for showing it... Brilliant, I had a tear in my eye as the lads all came to save Dennis, this is what British television has been waiting for and 11.6 million viewers can't be wrong. We were all talking about it at work this morning and the only complaints are the theme tune which I believe was written by Jimmy Nail but in any case I'm sure we will get used to that as well. Brilliant, can't wait for the next five to be shown, the writers have come up tops with yet another superb Auf Pet series, roll on series four!! Kevin Whately is so sexy!!!! Oh, and the show's not bad too...
Alan, UK Having watched the original two series fairly recently on Bravo, I was looking forward to the new series with more recent memories of the seven than some. I wasn't disappointed. Covering 15 years of the characters lives in a one-hour programme was a tough task, but the writers pulled it off admirably. I was a little worried that it might be a fiasco to match "The Legacy of Reginald Perrin" a few years back, but it was great to have them back. And Bill Nighy looks set to be every bit as good a seedy svengali as Ally Fraser was in series two. I have to say that it is most unlike me to be moved to actually contact the BBC having watched a recent programme, but I have to congratulate you on the return of the lads on Sunday. I can't remember when I enjoyed a series so much and it's a refreshing change to watch something so funny, touching and interesting. My hubby comes from Middlesborough and it's the first time I knew he was called a Smoggie - so thanks for that! Great to see the lads back and well done BBC on bringing them back onto our screens. Can't wait for next Sunday - by the way you've really stuffed the Forsyte - well done! I really did not think it possible to bring back such a quality programme but full credit to the BBC, you've done it, it was better than I expected apart from the theme tune, long may it continue.
Mark Weir, Scotland Brilliant writers and brilliant actors. I was dubious about the new series as normally they are never as good but I feel this one will be excellent. At the start of the show I was disappointed with the theme tune but then I realised what you had done. I think Knopfler's tune in the style of an Indian chant and the "Why aye man" words very cleverly bring the Geordies and the Indians together. Complete rubbish - boring, slow, and gloomy. I would rather watch what's left on ITV Digital..... Absolutely brilliant. Storyline a bit contrived to start with but hopefully now that the reason for the lads being together is out of the way we can settle down to some real entertainment. Not gritty enough yet but hopefully will become so. I'll keep watching!
C Harding, UK Just as hilarious as it was 16 years ago. Cheeky and witty, as well as showing the differences between the social classes. It cleverly captures what the North East is really about, contrasting six great personalities. Well done lads, I look forward to the rest of the series. But I lie in hope that this new-found Oz has not forgotton his old ways! Thanks for bringing back the programme which has never failed to see the north proud!!! Welcome Back. Missed you all, glad Oz hasn't changed altogether. Good to see the boys back, and of course its' a pity that Wayne couldn't be there. Let's hope that the storyline thickens, and I do wish that the BBC wouldn't insist on showing every detail of "next weeks episode". I feel like I might have already seen it. Good on yer Oz ! Excellent!!!! Although I never realised I was a Smoggie. Is the theme tune going to be released as a single? Superb, welcome back boys! Slow start, should be interesting with the team being the gaffers and in charge of foreign workers in the UK. Shoe on the other foot for sure. Will it reflect the old series, will some of the other faces from the past show up? Old girlfriends from Germany? Babies etc? Potential for a great series. What next? Boys From the Blackstuff returned? Under a new Labour government.
Mark Dennis, UK I thought last night's show was excellent. I only just remember the originals when I was a child and thought that it was fun to see the boys getting together again, some characters having made more of a success of their life after 16 years than others. I don't normally let myself get sucked into watching a whole TV series, however this one will be a must-see for me. Top writing, top acting, top directing...a top night in! I enjoyed last nights episode. I never saw the original series but I have a good idea what it was about. I watched it based on the merit of the actors involved and the strong characters. New doesnt automatically mean quality. I think it will fair extremely well considering what the alternatives are for Sunday evening TV.
Alex, Newcastle, UK This was a shot in the arm to Sunday night viewing. The Beeb have done well to get this gem for themselves. The moments when Oz talked about "waking up with a few cows" and when he punched the drug dealer reminded me why I loved the first series. One thing though, what is with the theme tune? Forgettable! It was a slow start, I fell asleep. Okay, I am an Auf Wiedersehen "nut". I love it. I must have watched the first and second series dozens of times and look forward to the DVD releases. But the BBC have played a "blinder" here! Absolutely brilliant! I was a little concerned about the resurrection, but what a treat. There has GOT to be a second series. Surely? Thank you BBC for taking the plunge, and well done lads!! Brilliant start to a new series. The magic is still there. Loved the twist with Wyman as Wayne's (Gary Holton) son. Great!
Matthew Jackson, Blackpool Brilliant to see the lads back together again. The series had to start off a little slow in order to set the scene - put things in context. But the chemistry between them all is still there. I felt a twinge of saddness that Wayne (Gary Holton) wasn't there, but good luck to Wyman, I think he'll fit in nicely very soon. Quality writers, quality actors, how can this series fail? Only criticism - the theme tune! Where is it? I agree with many others, get Joe Fagin on the job. Thanks to the BBC for reviving this TV series but (and I'm sorry to say this), I preferred ITV's format. Even so, I've now got something to look forward to on Sunday nights - hope there's a fourth series. Excellent first episode which creates a platform for some great storylines. It was very, very emotional to see the Lads again after all these years.....but give all credit to the BBC for taking the risk and bringing back a very popular and cult TV classic! I look forward to viewing future episodes..........and as for the theme tune.....I personally think Jimmy Nail has done a great job! Thank you for the best series ever created. I was brought up with the Pet series. Still wanna know what happened at the end of series two but really I would pay the license just for this.
Chris Spraggins, UK I miss the hut, Oz's cracks about the Germans, Wayne's escapades with Barry (like in the wonderful Private Lives episodes - Pet fans will know the one I mean) and the cheerful and inexplicably catchy music from the originals. But just to have the remaining cast back together is a pleasure in itself. All the best lads! I am only 15 so didn't see it in the 80s but good show. Will have to reorganise Sunday revsion!!!! I thought it was brilliant and I was pleased with the way Wayne's absence was handled. It wouldn't have seemed right him working away, he'd have come back at all costs. I've watched the first episode numerous times now and I haven't changed my initial impression of it. The way I see it, some of it was OK, a lot of it was bad, but none of it was great. Yeah, it may be twice as good as anything else on the box at the moment, but it isn't even half as good as the first series, never mind the second - which was Auf Pet's finest moment in my view and something that will never be beaten.
Paul Ward, UK It was brilliant then and it's great to have it back. Some great one liners! Well done BBC. If the actors had changed I don't think it would have worked so well. Can't wait til Sunday. Great show but why oh why do the BBC (and ITV for that matter) insist on the usual "....next week on.." at the end of the show? Perhaps we don't what to know what happens next week until next week!!! The series got off to a blinding start and it's brilliant to have the lads back. The first episode was a bit slow but it did have some cracking moments - Oz punching the dealer, Moxy's motorbike ride. If you look back to the second series the first episode of that seems quite slow in comparison to the rest of the shows. But as Bomber says the craic is always good and I actually prefer the second series to the first. If they get the theme tune situation sorted out next week it will be perfect. After all, 11 million viewers can't be wrong can they?
Gary Hunt, England Great return of a great show...but for goodness sake try and do something with the theme tune. Surely the BBC can afford to pay Joe Fagin to use it again! Great to see you back guys, it's been too long. I read with interest the discussions regarding the theme song. Could they really have used either of the two themes from the original two series? I also think the show was slow to start, however just the teaser for next week has me thinking "Hmmm, what the hell's going to happen there." Well done all involved! Fantastic, real depth to everything, even Middlesborough looked good, story was nicely contrived and a bit incredible, but what do you expect, 15 years is a long time to make up! Wayne's son was a great twist. The cast have matured well, excellent characterisation especially from Jimmy Nail, had me laughing my head off. I'm hooked and I want more, be brave BBC and don't be put off by the negative comments. Roll on next Sunday. Absolutely fantastic, about time something decent was on.
Meg, Rochdale, UK I missed the first outings in the 80s. But the new series seems excellent. It is shot like a real film, it moves along very swiftly, the characters have good descriptions from the start. I hope it's going to be a classic. Being a huge fan of the first two series of Pet, I was looking forward to Sunday's show but was also a little worried - would it be as good as series one and two? I needn't have worried!!! The chemistry between the cast is still excellent and the recounting of where the boys have been for the last 16 years was handled really well!!! Well done BBC!!! Oh, and whilst I miss the Joe Fagin theme tune(s), the Mark Knopfler one will grow on people I'm sure. One final thing - will we ever find out what happened to Ally Fraser's speed boat as it sped off carrying the lads at the end of Series two, being chased by the police? It was a joy to see old favourites return after so long, the acting was spot on and the script was a cracker. Well done to the BBC for bringing everybody back together. After only one episode of series three, let's hope we get a series four. I moved to the States not long after the original series, and guess what? I've come back just in time for the new series. The original series was a brilliant blast a lot of us could relate to it. Now the magic has returned only better! May the gang long live.
Ian Walmsley, Preston, England Top stuff. Anybody who didn't laugh is either dead or German! Joke! Roll on next Sunday and please, please make another Series. Six episodes will not be enough on the basis of what we have seen so far. As a Geordie I am wondering why Irish music was used as the soundtrack for this series, is there something we should know about? It was like they have never been away! Brilliant storylines to re-introduce characters. Couldn't fault it in any department. I hope we don't have to wait 16 years for another series!! Excellent, can't wait for next Sunday. I especially liked the settings as a Middlesbrough lad working away from home, it cheered me up no end. I had to tell the wife a bit about the old series to get her aquainted with the characters but now we will be avid viewers every Sunday.....thanks BBC. The theme tune was a bit naf though! I missed the original series, if they were anything like the current series, they must have been BRILLIANT!!!!!! Any possibility or releasing them on DVD or video, or a re-release on BBC? One word describes it - brilliant. The show is as great as ever and Oz is bang on form. How anyone can dismiss it as rubbish is beyond me. Welcome back lads. It's good that after 16 years the show can still get me going. Thank god it wasn't a flop like the Only Fools and Horses christmas show. I now understand why I'm a fan of the show with the brilliant writing and exellent acting. The boys are back and about time, they have just reinstalled the British comedy scene. Well done to all involved and Auf Wiedersehen Pet for now anyway. Slow but still very watchable. Hopefully when the guys start working together again, their old personalities will re-surface - the signs are already there that they will. I agree that Wayne will definitely be a huge loss though. It would also have been great if they'd found a part for Ally Fraser again - he was brilliant! Whoever had doubts about Auf Wiedersehen Pet being a sucess is daft as a brush. I really enjoy watching them together for the first time in years, keep up the good works lads. I think that it's a great show to watch. I used to watch it when they repeated the episodes from the 80s. It's great. The boys are back, I'm 22 and I love the whole collection. Excellent, just excellent, about time they came back. I have always wondered what happened next. I would still like to know whether they got caught on the boats and what happened to Ali, Vicky and Kenny. It's back, let it stay for good. It puts the British comedy back on track after Only Fools and Horses messed it up at Christmas. Auf Wiedersehen, Pet. Absolutely fantastic! Extremely well written! Puts most films to shame! The best part is how they used the fact that there was a 16 year gap to their advantage, thus leavin' Ali Frazer et al in the past. After all, why would the lads go on about it, they'd already know! And Wyman is a welcome addition! Gary Holton would be proud! Long live Auf Wiedersehen! Brilliant, once I heard that the BBC were going to make a new series of Auf Pet I could not wait for it to be aired, so come last Sunday night I settled down in front of my TV with a lager in one hand and my finger on the record button of my VCR. I sat there for the whole hour, I could not believe how fast that hour went. The BBC did not let us down, what a show. Roll on the next five episodes, and hopefully the next series. I love Auf Wiedersehen Pet and am thrilled that it is back on our screens. Really enjoyed the first episode of the series, can't wait for the rest. I had to arrange to have episode one taped, express airmailed, then converted (to NTSC), and it was so very worth it, I'll be gladly repeating the process five more times. There were so many things that could have gone wrong continuing the best TV series ever made, but most of them were avoided. It's funny to read comments that it was slow. Anyone remember the pace of episode one of the first two series? Brilliant job lads, one and all. Well done the BBC, this was almost good as Only Fools and Horses, I can't wait until the next show!!! Fantastic to see the guys back on screen, I think it's a shame to see some people knocking this before its even really begun. It would be wrong for the writers to try and take off from where they left off, a credible story takes time. The only gripe would be the theme tune, the original title would have made this complete. Sterling work boys!!!!!!!!!! I am glad it is back and have heard that the first episode was brilliant but my husband recorded the wrong channel and it is only being repeated on BBC Choice - why can't you repeat it on BBC - PLEASE?!!! Thank god the BBC have resurrected the programme. Sixteen years of wondering have now thankfully come to an end. As a Middlesbrough lad I didn't mind the fact that they used the transporter bridge when there are two perfectly good road bridges across the river Tees or that the kid who minded Barry's car in Middlesbrough spoke with a Geordie accent. This new show was well written, well acted and not overly sentimental and will improve with age. Welcome back boys you've been away too long!! I agree with those who've said it was like picking up with old friends - marvellous stuff. My one criticism is the lack of surprise at Oz arriving at his own funeral - due to the numerous trailers, the surprise element was completely spoilt... doesn't mean I won't keep watching though! Very poor, the show should have been left in the past. Brilliant in its day but not for today Excellent, however, not as good as the classic first series. Little bit unbeliveable, as I was in M/boro last week and the bridge is still there. Too politically correct for my taste, but its nice to see the old Oz making a return. Wyman should have been left out of it, because its patently obvious to me that he is gonna get off (or at least try to) with Nev's daughter. Bomber looks a shadow of his former self, and Den deseves better, would have been nice to see ally back even for a cameo role, found the bit about Hazel being a lesbian a little distasteful as I have had a similar experience myself, Barry, I feel for you. Oz and a laptop I thought I would never see. Dont like him, and considering Oz's hatred of the Conservatives in series 1, seems a little odd. Good effort guys, but not as good as the 1st and 2nd series. Must try harder, but this is only episode 2. I was prepared for this to be awful, much in the style of the excruciating Christmas episode of Only Fools and Horses, but so far (we're up to episode 2), it's been a refreshing return for the lads. My only complaint would be the treatment the Dennis character has received at the hands of the scriptwriters. The Barry transformation from raddish to millionaire was just about believable with a large pinch of salt, but Dennis the drug-runner's stooge didn't really ring true - however skint he was supposed to be. Everyone I spoke to at work after the first episode watched the return, 100% As usual excellent scripts, slow start but how well they have been able to bring the show back to life.Mind some have aged better than others. Ratings war will be one sided on this series. Well done. I have just watched the second programme and felt that I had to put pen to paper (or more accurately finger to keyboard) as soon as possible. The new series is magnificent. OK, the first programme was a little slow but those of us who were and still are fans of the first two series all those years ago were waiting with baited breath to see just how it would all turn out after sixteen years. Well, we needn't have worried. It's magnificent.....nothing more to add, really! (except for that theme tune- sorry, Mark, not one of your better efforts, and was Barry really trying to snort cocaine? Must go and watch the video again!) Great to see the lads back on our screens again finally we get something worthy of our licence fees, great!!!!! Absolutely brilliant. However - the writers have mad a glaring error when they portrayed Oz as a Newcastle fan. (I know that's who he supports in real life) Didn't all the boys go and watch Sunderland in the original series??? Whoever said that it should be left well alone obviously doesn't know a classic when they see one...cheers production team for bringing it back! The show has lost none of its sharpness wit or insight. The actors seem better this time around. Great to see it back. Brilliant, well worth waiting for.The new series is bang up to date, but the lovable old characters are still there. Look forward to the rest of the series with hopefully more to come. I've only ever heard of the first series but if it was any thing like this one, WOW!! I'm really enjoying it,its more like what I've come to expect from the BBC, keep it up!!! Thankyou. I can't wait till the next episode, it is as good as it ever was.
Martin, Middlesbrough Fantastic!! I am new to Auf Wiedersehen Pet since I am too young to remember the first series! Please show the old series again on the BBC and not just BBC Choice! If it was anything like this series it was brill!! Well what can I say! Brill. I am so glad they are back. Being a fan of the original series and having watched it over and over again on video I was really looking forward to the new shows. Whilst it was a little slow at first and, at times, a little glossy, I was really pleased with the final result. Not enough swearing from Oz though! I will definitely be watching again and can't wait for series four as long as the quality is the same. I remember watching the original series with my father when I was a kid many years ago because I was a wresting fan & Pat Roach appeared in it. I enjoyed it then & I enjoyed the new series when I watched it last week. The old magic is still there. Although a little slow in places, just like the original, when it's funny, it's REALLY funny. Oz is as mouthy as ever, Barry is as hapless as ever and Bomber is, well, just Bomber. Briliant, absolutely brilliantly written. There are still 5 more episodes but there has got to be another series as it is class. When i first heard that a new series was planned i was very concerned that could the new series live up to the previous two. It had been 16 years after all. I watched the first episode and was very excited revistng the characters that had become like old friends. Fantasic first episode to kick of the series. I felt the writing team once agan spot. Bloody fantasic is all i can say! Just great wey aye man. Brilliant! All the actors were in top form as the characters. As an Auf Wiedersehen nut I was a little worried when the new series started but I neednt have worried. Was a bit shocked regarding the music but I am sure we will get used to it. If there is to be a 4th series let something nice happen for Dennis(Dagmar`s return!) Take note Dick & Ian. By the way the first 2 series are being released on DVD in May & June. Will there be a DVD for this series and a soundtrack album. Hope so. Carry on the excellent work BBC! To all those knocking the show...you've only seen one episode so far. At least give it a chance. Me? I think it's bloody brilliant! Excellent, but have to agree with most other comments- a slow start, and where the bloody hell is Joe Fagin? I was watching Auf Pet when I was nine, and it is wonderful to see these characters from my childhood blossom. A brave move to bring it back, and I hope it's a successful one. I loved both of the previous series Germany and Spain; I enjoyed the tie-ins from those shows to this one, I am a big Tim Healy fan and even have one of his personal drawings from a Charity auction, looking forward to the rest of the series All fans of the lads will have waited patiently for the first 20 minutes of the show, while old friends were introduced and updates on who-is-doing-what were explained. I found myself getting into the plot more than I did as a young lad in the mid-80s. Well done to the actors.. a "welcome back" to them all. Well done the BBC! It's a real treat to have this wonderful comedy drama back again, having watched and enjoyed the first two series. Superb acting and great dialogue! I'm sure the new series will repeat the classic episodes of the past. Gary Holton is sorely missed. It is good to see Auf Wiedersehen, Pet back on TV. It was the best programme on TV in the 80s. I recorded every episode. So here we are with series three! Mmmmmmm......two things really. 1. Where was Joe Fagan with the songs? He probably would have appreciated the business. Mark Knofpler was literally DIRE! 2. The BBC should have shot the new series on video as ITV had done with Pet in the 80s. Instead they used film. Video gave us a closeness to the characters which is lost on film.
