| Wednesday, 24 April, 2002, 16:38 GMT 17:38 UK The Osbournes set UK date ![]() Ozzy Osbourne with wife Sharon and daughter Kelly A fly-on-the-wall TV show following the life of rock wild man Ozzy Osbourne and his family is to be shown in the UK after becoming a surprise hit in the United States. The candid show has become the most popular show in music channel MTV's 20-year history since starting in March.
The Osbournes will be shown on MTV UK from 19 May, and may transfer to a terrestrial channel later in the year. Ozzy Osbourne, originally from Birmingham, West Midlands, was singer with heavy metal band Black Sabbath and was previously better known for stage antics like biting the head off a bat than for being a family man. But in the show, he gives his children advice on sex, drink and drugs, argues with neighbours who keep him awake by playing folk music, and sits around in his underpants. Fifty-five cameras watched the family for 24 hours a day for six months to compile the show, which has been watched by six million people per week in the US.
Ozzy, 53, his wife and manager Sharon and their children Kelly, 17, and Jack, 16, were filmed in their Beverly Hills home. He has battled drink and drug addictions, been notorious for trashing cars and hotel rooms, bitten the head off a live dove in a meeting with record executives and spent time in jail after urinating on The Alamo. 'Dead things' The TV series was a chance to show his version of family values, he has said. "What is a functional family? I know I'm dysfunctional by a long shot, but what guidelines do we all have to go by? The Waltons?" he said Viewers also see scenes such as the family moving home, and packing boxes with one marked "linens" and another marked "dead things". Ozzy still releases solo albums and heads the popular annual Ozzfest rock festival. This year's Ozzfest takes place on 25 May at Castle Donington, Leicestershire. | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top TV and Radio stories now: Links to more TV and Radio stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
