Sopranos actor admits mugging
Robert Iler
Iler arrived at court with family and friends
Sopranos actor Robert Iler, who plays AJ in the hit TV show, has pleaded guilty to mugging two tourists in New York.

Iler, 17, has escaped jail by admitting the offence of misdemeanour petty larceny in return for three years probation.

Don't you worry about me - I'm a millionaire

What Robert Iler is said to have told police
He could have faced up to 15 years in prison if he had stood trial on the original, more serious charge of second degree robbery.

Iler was arrested in July 2001 after stealing $40 (27) from two teenage tourists in Manhattan's Upper East Side district.

He told the judge he and a friend, Alban Selimaj, 17, decided to "hassle" the pair after seeing them walk down the street towards them.

Selimaj entered the same plea but a third defendant, Michael Cournede, 20, has maintained his innocence and is due to stand trial on the robbery charge.

Another defendant, who was 15 at the time, is having his case heard by a family court.

'Embarrassed'

A police report said Iler bragged and cursed after his arrest, telling an officer: "Don't you worry about me - I'm a millionaire."

He was released on $2,500 (1,720) bail but said he was "terribly embarrassed" by the arrest and regretted putting his family and friends through an "extremely difficult" time.

Iler plays the rebellious Anthony "AJ" Soprano Jr, son of a mafia boss, in the award-winning TV drama.
