| Monday, 15 April, 2002, 15:44 GMT 16:44 UK Oasis single aims for old glories ![]() The Hindu Times is the first track on the new album Britpop giants Oasis have released their first new single for almost two years. The Hindu Times is the first track from their forthcoming album, Heathen Chemistry, which is due out in July. The track was unveiled at the band's 10th anniversary gigs late last year, and at later shows in Watford and at London's Royal Albert Hall.
A bootleg recording of the new single's world premire, on a Norwegian radio station, was leaked on to the internet as long ago as 1 March.
Oasis's last album, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, was poorly received. Their last single, Sunday Morning Call, peaked at number four in July 2000. But tickets for their summer gigs - their first outdoor UK shows for two years - were the fastest selling in the band's history. The first two concerts, on 5 and 6 July at London's Finsbury Park, sold out within two hours and extra dates had to be added to meet demand. The Manchester band are due to be supported by The Charlatans and the US's Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. The band and fans alike will be hoping that The Hindu Times marks a return to the glory days of the mid-to-late 1990s, when Oasis seemed unable to put a foot wrong. For the last two years or so, the press has concentrated less on the band's music than on the Gallagher brothers' turbulent relationships both with their partners and with each other. | See also: Top Music stories now: Links to more Music stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
