| Sunday, 14 April, 2002, 18:03 GMT 19:03 UK Gates stays at number one ![]() Gates has held off competition from David Byrne Pop Idol runner-up Gareth Gates has clocked up a fourth week at number one in the UK singles chart. His cover of Unchained Melody fought off competition from Talking Heads frontman David Byrne to remain at the top spot. It means Gates has now lasted a week longer at number one than Pop Idol winner Will Young.
Byrne's collaboration with dance act X-Press 2, Lazy, entered the singles charts at number two. Faithless are in the top 10 at number six with One Step Too Far, a song which features Dido on lead vocals. Other new entries include 1 Giant Leap at number nine with My Culture. The song features the vocal talents of Robbie Williams. DJ Matt Darey's Beautiful is at number 10 with boy band 3SL at 11 with Take it Easy. There is bad news for garage stars So Solid Crew.
In the album charts Celine Dion maintains her position at the number one spot with A New Day Has Come. US rocker Sheryl Crow scores a high new entry at number two with C'mon C'mon.
