Veteran rockers AC/DC again occupy the number two slot - the position they shared last year with New Zealand-born Crowe. This year, Crowe earned an estimated AUS $29m (10.8m), compared with AC/DC's AUS $30m (11m), the finance magazine Business Review Weekly reports.
Crowe and his latest film, A Beautiful Mind, won a clutch of international awards - but he missed out on the biggest personal accolade of all - the Oscar for best actor. That award went to Denzel Washington, for his work in Training Day. The biggest surprise in the list was Crocodile Hunter presenter Steve Irwin, who entered the finance magazine's list for the first time at number five, with AUS $16.3m (6m). The khaki-clad TV host's show is broadcast in 130 countries, and has been turned into a feature-length film entitled Crocodile Hunter: The Collision Course. The top earner in Australia was an entertainment production company, Sports and Entertainment Limited.
James Erskine, David Coe, Tony Cochrane and Basil Scaffidi made an estimated AUS $37m (13.8m) in 2001. Baz Luhrmann, director of the Oscar-nominated film Moulin Rouge, was another new entry. Luhrmann came in fourth with earnings in the region of AUS $19.7m (7.3m) Actress Nicole Kidman - who was herself nominated for the best actress Oscar for Moulin Rouge - moved from up from 12 to eight with AUS$ 11.6m (4.3m). Pop singer Kylie Minogue shot up the chart, from 42 last year to number nine, with an income of AUS 10m (3.7m) after sellout concert tours of Australia and the UK. | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Showbiz stories now: Links to more Showbiz stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
