Dave Stewart auctions design collection
Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox
Stewart and Annie Lennox sold 15m records as Eurythmics
Furniture from the flat of Eurythmics star Dave Stewart is to be auctioned off as part of an 20th century design sale.

Sotheby's at Olympia, London, is holding a sale entitled Applied Arts and 20th Century Design, including 25 lots belonging to the musician and movie director.

Malitte seating system
The Malitte modular seating system is valued up to 1,500
Among the items are ceramics, glass, sculpture and furniture from the Gothic Revival, Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements, through to contemporary pieces.

Stewart, who directed the All Saints film flop Honest, is better known for his music and love of new technology than for his eye for design.

His collection includes lamps, speakers and even a fridge-freezer, all dating from the 50s and 60s.

There is also a garden egg chair, one of three in the sale, designed by Peter Ghyczy.

Pop furniture

Highlights of the collection, which have come from Stewart's London home, include a Djinn series suite designed by Olivier Morgue and identical to those used in the Stanley Kubrick film 2001: A Space Odyssey.

The suite, described as "pop furniture", is estimated to fetch between 3,000 and 5,000 when it goes under the hammer on 3 May.

A Malitte modular seating system designed by Roberto Sebastian Matta in 1966 could be worth as much as 1,500.

The sale also features 19th Century pieces including a gilt brass candelabra designed by AWN Pugin and made by John Hardman, with a high estimate of 3,000.

Among the art deco furniture is a chrome tubular steel frame adjustable lounge chair designed by Marcel Breuer in 1931, expected to sell for between 1,800-2,200.

Elsewhere in the sale are several pieces from the 1960s and 70s including a set of eight high back Osford chairs by Arne Jacobsen, one of Denmark's leading international style architects.
