A group from Untold magazine, which has a high number of black readers, jeered arriving guests and complained the film, Ali G In Da House, was racist.

But Cohen laughed off the criticism, saying: "It's clear there's a lot of racialism out there and if they see a brother on screen and they knock me for that then so be it. Keep it real."

The character Ali G has been accused by some sections of the black community as racist, because he adopts elements of black youth culture.

The movie sees the spoof white rapper from Staines elected to the House of Commons, becoming a most unconventional Member of Parliament.

The star turned up at the premiere in a Lincoln Navigator car flanked by his posse of women, whose skimpy outfits were shaped like cannabis leaves.

His hit single with Shaggy, Me Julie, which is currently No 2 in the charts, boomed out of the car stereo before Ali G gave the crowd a taste of his parliamentary manifesto.

He said: "There's a few names I want to change.

"Berkshire would become Booyakasha, Great Britain would be renamed Wicked Britain and Tooting Broadway should be renamed Tupac Shakur-way.

"The first thing I would do would be to get rid of Wales - I would swap it for Jamaica."

Among guests at the premiere were Kellie Bright, who plays his love interest Julie in the film.

The actress, who wore a calf-length dress with a delicate lace body, said of the film: "I just really enjoyed doing the whole thing. I was up for a laugh."

Some of the film's cameo performers were also at the event, including Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan, Channel 4 newsreader Jon Snow, actors Charles Dance and Michael Gambon, who plays the prime minister, and supermodel Naomi Campbell.

The movie was filmed in Los Angeles and the London suburb of Staines, the "home" of Ali G and his gang, the Staines Massive.

The film opens across the UK on Friday.
