Ronni Ancona, comedy partner of Alistair MacGowan, was named best new TV talent and Linda Green, starring former Big Breakfast presenter Liza Tarbuck, picked up comedy programme of the year.

Elsewhere BBC One's EastEnders beat Coronation Street and Hollyoaks for the title of TV soap of the year, Cold Feet star James Nesbitt was drama performer of the year and David Attenborough's The Blue Planet picked up the prize for best documentary.

Channel 4's house hunting show A Place In The Sun won best morning/daytime show, while BBC One's The Way We Live Now won best drama.

In the satellite/digital awards, Kirsty Gallacher - of Sky One and Sky Sports - won best presenter while BBC Choice's LA Pool Party walked off with best programme.
