Popstars rejects Liberty have announced their new name after losing a court battle to use their original one.

The five, who missed out on a chance to be part of Hear'Say, will now be called Liberty X.

The pop group were ordered in January to stop using their name after a high court judge ruled another band had claim to the title.

The other group - an East London funk band - achieved a small amount of success in the early 1990s.

New single

The new name was thought up by one of the band's fans, 18-year-old Kevin Turner. He won a trip to New York for solving the problem.

The group - Jessica Taylor, Kevin Simm, Tony Lundon, Michelle Heaton and Kelli Young - have released two singles so far.

Their debut Thinking it Over reached the top five but the second offering, Doing It, did not do as well.

Plans for the group's third single had to be put on hold after the court ruled that any material the group released under the name Liberty would be seized.

'Still recording'

Just a Little will now be released on 13 May.

The original Liberty won the Capital Radio Young Band of the Year contest in 1994 and went on to release records in the Europe and the US.

They were invited to tour with Wet, Wet, Wet and Eternal.

The band is still recording, according to its founder member Kevin Sutherland, 32.
