| Friday, 22 February, 2002, 19:37 GMT Beckhams to have September baby ![]() The Beckhams: What will the new arrival be called? David and Victoria Beckham are expecting their second child in September, they have announced, confirming speculation that Victoria was pregnant again. "This year has been such an exciting year for us - England are in the World Cup finals, Victoria's had a second top 10 hit and now we are expecting a new baby," the couple said in a statement.
"Brooklyn is really looking forward to having a little brother or sister to play with," the Beckhams added. John Glover, who recently took over Victoria's management, said: "It is wonderful news and we are very pleased for them. "Victoria will be continuing with her work and we are currently planning the promotion of her third single." Victoria, 26, had bad morning sickness when pregnant with Brooklyn during a Spice Girls' world tour. Morning sickness The couple also star in an ITV1 documentary called Being Victoria Beckham and in trailers for the 4 March programme they are seen discussing pregnancy. In one she said: "I loved being pregnant," while in another she said: "I like giving birth - oh, I love it." But David hits back by telling her: "You had a Caesarean. You didn't even feel it." Victoria, 26, was touring with the former Spice Girls when she first discovered she was pregnant and suffered terrible morning sickness. The Beckhams met in March 1997, and got engaged a year later. Brooklyn was born in March 1999, and they married in July the same year.
Brooklyn has become now possibly one of the most famous toddlers in Britain. He is regularly seen out with his parents, particularly at his father's matches. But he is not quite one of the lads - one of his birthday presents was a toy Ferrari - reportedly worth 48,000.
Bookmaker William Hill was offering odds of three to one that the couple would have a second baby in 2002 as the year dawned. Now Hills is giving figures of 4/5 for a boy and evens for a girl, while a multiple birth is at 50-1. Victoria's next single is a duet with Robbie Craig, called I Wish, and will be released at the beginning of May. The singer recently had to quash speculation that she was to be dropped by record label Virgin after her latest single, A Mind of Its Own, entered the UK singles chart at number six. David, the England football team captain, recently signed a deal with Marks and Spencer to launch a line of boys' clothing. |
