The US author is now top of both the hardback and paperback charts with The Summons and A Painted House respectively. JK Rowling's Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire slips back to number three on the combined Whitaker BookTrack charts. However she will not be too disappointed as Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets are still in the top six.
The thriller is set in Ford County, Mississippi, the same setting as his first hit novel A Time to Kill, which was later made into a movie starring Samuel L Jackson. It centres on an old judge who summons his two sons to hear details of his will, but dies before he can explain their inheritance, leaving behind a dark secret. Grisham's family drama A Painted House notched up a second week at the top of the paperback chart. Success The 47-year-old is one of the world's best-selling authors with more than 60 million books in print worldwide. The former lawyer and politician has seen six of his books turned into movies, including The Client, The Pelican Brief and The Firm. Elsewhere on the UK book charts, Lyn Andrews enjoyed considerable success last week with her romantic novel House on Lonely Street. The Dublin-set drama shot up from to number five from 72 on the combined book charts. Grisham's success spelt bad news for the fantasy novels which have dominated the charts since before Christmas. JRR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy was the week's biggest faller, dropping 52 places to 84. |
