 | | Monday, 11 February, 2002, 10:31 GMT Collateral Damage tops box office  The film has knocked Black Hawk Down off the top spot Arnold Schwarzenegger's film Collateral Damage took over $15m (�9.2m) over its launch weekend in the US, early figures show. The film - whose release was postponed in the wake of the 11 September attacks - knocked Ridley Scott's war film Black Hawk Down off the top spot, according to monitoring firm Exhibitor Relations. Collateral Damage stars Schwarzenegger as a Los Angeles firefighter who is seeking revenge for the killing of his wife and young son during a terrorist attack on the city. Schwarzenegger's character becomes disillusioned with the official inquiry into the bombing which killed his family.
The explosion is blamed on el Lobo - the Wolf - an infamous rebel leader in Columbia's civil war. The film may have topped the box office at the weekend, but estimated receipts were lower than Schwarzenegger's previous efforts. Batman and Robin earned $42.8m (�26.3m) at its debut, in June 1997; and Terminator 2: Judgment Day took $31.7m (�19.5m) when it opened in July 1991. Hollywood-based comedy Big Fat Liar opened in second place at the weekend, earning about $11.7m (�8.3m). Futuristic action film Rollerball - starring LL Cool J, Chris Klein and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, together with narration from pop star Pink, opened at third with takings of around $9m (�6.4m). Black Hawk Down slipped down to fourth place, after three weeks at the top, with estimated earnings of $8m (�5.6m).
