| Friday, 18 January, 2002, 09:00 GMT Britney starts TV blitz ![]() Spears will be seen performing Overprotected on TOTP World-famous pop star Britney Spears has jetted into Britain for a two-day visit and will appear on BBC One's Top of the Pops on Friday. Spears, 20, arrived at London's Heathrow Airport on Thursday and went to BBC TV Centre to record the performance of her song Overprotected, to be aired at 1930 GMT. During her visit to the UK she will also give some select interviews, including one to ITV1 chat show host Frank Skinner. At the weekend Spears will visit the French Riviera resort of Cannes to give a press conference ahead of the town's annual music industry festival Midem. Spears arrived in the UK with a large entourage of security guards, stylists, dancers and assistants.
But a spokeswoman for Top of the Pops said she made no big demands - in contrast with the reported requests of singer Jennifer Lopez. Lopez allegedly requested about 10 dressing rooms for herself and her entourage for an appearance at last year's Top of the Pops music awards. "Britney has made no outlandish demands and she only has an entourage of about 20 - half of what J-Lo had," the spokeswoman said. "Of course she has a couple of minders but other than that she is just here with her dancers and her band." Thrilled Before going to the chart show's studios in west London, Spears went for a walk around Hyde Park with her bodyguards. She then went shopping at the Knightsbridge store Harvey Nichols. Despite her huge fame, fellow shoppers and sales staff reportedly failed to recognise her as she spent half an hour looking at clothes and jewellery. On Friday, Spears is scheduled to meet Skinner who said on Thursday that he was thrilled at the prospect of meeting her. "She is the hottest pop star in the world at the moment, and in more ways than one," he said in a statement. "The big question is will she put her career on the line and do a song with me at the end of the show." His interview with Spears will be shown later this month. | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Music stories now: Links to more Music stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
