Eastwood thanks fire house neighbours
Clint Eastwood, with Fransesca and Frances Fisher

Actor Clint Eastwood has thanked the neighbours of his former partner Frances Fisher for helping save her and their daughter from a house fire near Vancouver.

In an interview with local TV channel BC-CTV Eastwood said: "I was just thanking the neighbours because these people here were the ones who came to their aid."

A fire on Christmas Day badly damaged Ms Fisher's house and trapped her daughter Fransesca in an upstairs bedroom.

The cause of the blaze is still being determined
The eight-year-old climbed out of her bedroom window onto the roof of the garage and jumped into the arms of the neighbours and her mother - who had escaped through the front door.

Visiting the scene on Wednesday, Eastwood called his daughter "a pretty brave little gal, because she was so disoriented when she was inside".

Home

"It was all smoked. She had to go by Braille to get to the window," he said.

The 71-year-old actor had travelled from his California home to be with his daughter, who he took home with him.

Fire officials said on Thursday it could be several days before they were able to determine the cause of the fire.

Ms Fisher required treatment for second-degree burns on her hands, and Francesca for inhaling smoke, at Vancouver's Lions Gate Hospital.

Filming

British-born Ms Fisher, 49, appeared in the 1997 blockbuster Titanic as Kate Winslet's mother and also played in Eastwood's Oscar-winning western Unforgiven.

She had rented the home in Lynn Valley near Vancouver while filming the TV series Glory Days, which is produced in Vancouver.

Ms Fisher became romantically involved with Eastwood in the late 1980s and appeared in his 1989 film Pink Cadillac.

The couple's daughter Francesca appeared with both her parents in the 1999 thriller True Crime, which Eastwood directed.
