The song, entitled Let's Roll, will not be available in record shops, but is being sent to radio stations. It is inspired by the passengers on United Airlines Flight 93 who tackled hijackers after they heard about the three suicide plane attacks in New York and Washington. The last words heard from Todd Beamer, before he and a group of other passengers attacked the hijackers, was 'let's roll'.
Young wrote the song after reading a newspaper article about Beamer and he recorded it two weeks ago. He is signed to Reprise Records and their spokesman Bill Bentley said it is a poignant song. "I got the chills when I heard it. It's a Neil Young song all the way," Bentley said. " It starts kinda ominously. You can hear cell phones ringing. Famous "Neil felt this song, and wanted it to be heard. But he thought that commercialising it would be the wrong way to go," he said. Mr Bentley did reveal the song may appear on Young's next album, due out early next year. Young is one of North America's most famous singers and songwriters. He has been part of bands including Buffalo Springfield, Crazy Horse and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, as well as a successful solo career. |
