| Tuesday, 27 November, 2001, 08:55 GMT Queen sees royal Full Monty ![]() The Queen met Jennifer Lopez after her performance The Queen got a glimpse of The Full Monty at the Royal Variety Performance when the cast of the Broadway show upstaged stars including Sir Elton John and Jennifer Lopez with their stripping routine. The annual show also featured a raunchy sketch from TV stars Cilla Black and Barbara Windsor plus performances from chart star Craig David, comedian Jackie Mason and singer Donny Osmond.
The Queen, who was with the Duke of Edinburgh, did not appear to be shocked and applauded warmly. Sir Elton John appeared at his first Royal Variety Show for 30 years and told the audience that it was an "honour and pleasure" to be on the bill. EastEnders actress Barbara Windsor and Blind Date host Cilla Black teamed up with comedian Lily Savage for a rendition of Got To Have A Gimmick from the hit musical Gypsy.
The Queen told the trio how much she had enjoyed their performance as she shared a joke with them backstage. And pop superstar Lopez, known as J-Lo, also expressed her pleasure at performing in front of the Queen. "She asked me if I had flown over especially for the concert and I said it had been an absolute honour to do so, " the singer said afterwards. Former footballer Vinnie Jones, who is now a Hollywood actor, gave a unique performance as Macavity from the musical Cats as part of a celebration of the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Pop acts Craig David, Cher and The Corrs were among the other stars to thrill the crowd at London's Dominion Theatre on Monday. The audience was also treated to routines by acrobats from Spain and Russia. The Royal Variety Performance, which was first held in 1912, raises funds for the Entertainment Artistes' Benevolent Fund.
