Daytime TV stars Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan have started new jobs on Monday as hosts of an hour-long teatime show on Channel 4.

After 13 years presenting ITV's weekday magazine programme This Morning, their new project is a daily live show titled Richard and Judy.

As part of Channel 4's winter schedule, the new programme has promised a mix of "topical and entertaining" news items, guests, phone-ins and celebrity interviews.

However unlike This Morning, there will be no regular cookery, makeover or fashion slots.

Challenge

The guests on Monday's show were Amanda Holden and Les Dennis, and EastEnders stars Jessie Wallace and Kacey Ainsworth.

Channel 4 has said it wants the new daily show to offer teatime viewers an alternative to soaps and quizzes.

Earlier this year Madeley and Finnigan announced their decision to quit ITV following a management decision to alter the format of the show.

The couple said when they left This Morning that they were looking for a more exciting challenge in TV.

"Our new show is a really exciting proposition," said Madeley.

"We love popular journalism and breaking news - that's our background - plus we love talking to people and celebrity interviews," added Finnigan.

"So the idea of doing a topical entertainment programme at tea-time was just a delight."

The show was broadcast from a specially built studio in Kennington, south London.
