Alongside the world's most wanted man, there will be another 269 puppets on sale, ranging from Madonna, Paul McCartney and even the Queen's corgis.

Last year a similar Sotheby's sale saw 350 puppets raise �370,105.

The star of the last auction was one of the Margaret Thatcher puppets, which fetched �10,200.

Law said there were different models, depended on her moods.

"There was a patronising Thatcher that would talk down to you like your cat had died, a happy Thatcher which we hardly ever used, and an insane Thatcher.

"I hate puppets and I can't wait to see the back of them. I can't think why anyone would want them in their home."

Kerry Taylor, who is in charge of next week's auction, hinted that some celebrities may try to buy their own caricatures.

She said: "A lot of celebrities are interested in their own images, although I can't say who at the moment.

"Also, a lot of girlfriends, spouses and families are interested in giving a very unusual Christmas present this year."
