 | | Wednesday, 14 November, 2001, 14:32 GMT Queen to meet EastEnders  The Queen will get a warm East End welcome The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are to visit two popular BBC shows, soap opera EastEnders and children's programme Blue Peter, as part of a broadcasting-themed day. While at the set of Albert Square at Elstree Studios she will call into the Queen Vic pub and meet EastEnders' cast and crew. A Buckingham Palace spokesman told BBC News Online that the Queen has watched the soap, although could not say whether it was one of her favourites. While the Duke is visiting the film sets, the Queen will walk through the EastEnders street market and watch a rehearsal in the Queen Vic, named after her great-great-grandmother. The royals will also call at BBC Television Centre, where they will watch a rehearsal of Blue Peter and meet past and present presenters of the long-running children's programme.
And the Duke will visit BBC World Service, particularly the Persian and Pashto sections. The busy schedule will include London's ITN Studios, CNN and Classic FM. The Queen is expected to meet Sir Trevor McDonald at ITN before being shown news-gathering equipment used to cover the war in Afghanistan.
