Pitt 'spent time in treatment'
Brad Pitt
Brad Pitt: Money and power "crush everything"
Hollywood star Brad Pitt has revealed he spent a year and a half in treatment after a period when he described himself as having "crashed and burned".

Pitt, star of Fight Club and The Mexican, told Vanity Fair: "I wanted to understand how I operate."

Pitt does not say what led to his need for treatment, when it was, or if it was connected to his break-up with Oscar-winning actress Gywneth Paltrow in 1997.

At the time Paltrow revealed Pitt broke her heart when he walked out on her.

"When we split up, something changed permanently in me," she said. "My heart sort of broke that day and it will never be the same."

Pitt, who will shortly be seen in movies Oceans 11 and Spy Game, blamed his childhood in Missouri for not seeking help with his problems earlier.

"I came from a place where you had to be crazy to go to a crazy doctor. We don't talk about our feelings that way.

He said he was at times disgusted by the way celebrities were treated.

"We are treated as special, we get away with things that other people can't," he said.

'Merger'

"You start to believe the lie that you are special, that you're better than other people."

He said he had caught himself ordering close friends around.

"It's the money and the power, it just crushes everything," he added.

Pitt describes his marriage to Friends actress Jennifer Aniston as a "merger".

"The thing with our marriage is that there was an opening in the Hollywood couple slot, and unfortunately we've fallen into it.

"Which I don't like very much...It doesn't leave us room to be human, to make our mistakes and have our struggles."
