An award-winning revival of Cole Porter's Kiss Me Kate has transferred from Broadway to the West End.

Michael Blakemore's production includes four American stars of the stage, Marin Mazzie, Brent Barrett, Michael Barrasse and Nancy Anderson.

It is hoped that the light-hearted musical will revive the West End's fortunes after theatre-going tourists have stayed away from London since the terror attacks of 11 September.

"Kiss Me Kate is a musical for real musical lovers, big numbers intermingling with several ballad fillers," says BBC News Online's Keily Oakes.

But what do you think? Will it boost the West End? Or is it too old-fashioned for the contemporary audience?

Wonderful, wonderful show, excellent production, cleverly tweaked to give a fresh patina. However, Nolan Frederick's rendition of Too Darn Hot was weak and disappointing. The trappings around him suggested there would be something special, and yet all I saw was a man who could only sing a little and only dance a little. As for the criticism of Cole Porter's rhyming scheme, am I mad or is he not widely acknowledged as a masterful lyricist?

It was terrific - full of enthusiasm and professional without feeling 'slick'. The choreography was stunning, the grape treading scene was erotic and the costumes eye-catching. The singing had you wanting to join in. Kiss Me Kate is one of my favourite musicals on film but this was the first time I had seen a staged version. It says something that the performances of Marin Mazzie and Brent Barrett to my mind completely outweigh those of Kathryn Grayson and Howard Keel in the film. Their singing was sublime and the energy infectious. Go and see it!
