Anthea Turner's latest TV venture has been axed after TV bosses spent several weeks deciding what should happen to the Carlton Food Network after an earlier partnership with Sainsbury's fell through.

In the latest blow to Turner's career, the pay TV channel CFN will close at the end of the year, marking the end of her food show Taste.

Up until August, when Sainsbury's pulled out, it had been a joint internet and television food business.

Turner, who appeared on Celebrity Big Brother, also had her presenting job for the BBC's lottery show Big Ticket axed, and Your Kids Are In Charge, with her sister Wendy, proved to be a ratings flop.

S Club stars an item

Teen pop band S Club 7's Paul Cattermole and Hannah Spearritt have revealed that they have been secretly dating for six months.

The couple decided to go public with their off-screen romance before speculation began about their private lives.

"We wanted to see how things went so we've kept it relatively quiet until now," said Cattermole.

"We've known each other for seven years and have got a lot closer since we've been in the band, so we're very happy," Spearritt added.

Rock icon plays UK dates

Former Pink Floyd guitarist Roger Waters will play his first UK dates for 15 years next year as part of a four-month world tour.

Waters made his decision to go back on the road following a charity show he did for Don Henley in 1992.

"The response I got was so compellingly warm, I thought I'd be crazy not to do this some more," he said.

Waters lost a court battle to disband Pink Floyd after walking out on the band in the mid-80s.

Gospel act win contest to land record deal

An R&B gospel act has landed a record contract after beating off competition from hundreds of hopefuls to win a TV talent contest.

Raymond And Co from Walthamstow, East London, write all their own music and won the contract after winning the contest organised by GMTV and newspaper The Voice.

The specialist music label, Integrity Music, presented the group with their contract, live on television.

"We're all so excited by the opportunity we've been given," said the band's leader, Raymond Dyer.

Barrymore 'cast' for Clooney film

Drew Barrymore will play the lead female role in George Clooney's directorial film debut, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, according to reports.

Clooney will also star in the adaptation of the memoirs of game show host Chuck Barris, trade newspaper Variety reported.

Writer Charlie Kaufman, whose previously work includes Being John Malkovich, penned the Miramax comedy which will also star Sam Rockwell.

Rockwell is set to play Barris, who claims he was recruited by the CIA to become a government-sponsored assassin.

REM pull off secret gig

REM surprised a small audience in their hometown by doing a full set for a crowd that expected to see a film and a local band.

The band were in the town of Athens in Georgia, US, rehearsing for upcoming shows, and joined the band The Possibilities along with musicians Scott McCaughey and Ken Stringfellow, who perform on REM's latest CD.

Band manager Bertis Downs said: "[REM guitarist] Peter Buck had been really wanting to do a show while he was in town, and the stars really were just in the right alignment for this to happen."

The show was sponsored by a local organisation to thank residents for their generosity after the attacks on the US on 11 September.
