Tarantino said on Monday: "Yuen Woo Ping will choreograph the Chinese kung fu action and Sonny Chiba will choreograph the samurai action."

But the director added: "It's not official and money hasn't changed any hands."

Kill Bill will tell the story of a female assassin (Uma Thurman) who goes on a world-wide revenge spree after a massacre at her wedding.

Tarantino, who wrote the film script over the last year, said that it amalgamates 35 years of watching kung fu flicks, samurai movies, spaghetti Westerns, spy thrillers and revenge movies.

"I've written this character for Uma, and they (Woo Ping and Chiba) are going to put her through training, where she will have to learn the kung fu animal styles," Tarantino said.

"And I'll also have Yuen and Sonny play parts in it," he added.

Yuen Woo Ping was acclaimed for his work as fight director for last year's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

Tarantino has made his name with violent thrillers

Sonny Chiba is known in America for his 1970s series of Street Fighter karate films.

Tarantino himself has been one of Hollywood's hottest properties since he directed the gangland thriller Reservoir Dogs in 1992.

His subsequent hits have included Pulp Fiction in 1994 and Jackie Brown in 1997.
