Brolin, 33 and Driver, 30, became engaged in April but had not set a date for a wedding ceremony.

On Wednesday, a spokeswoman for Driver described the break-up as amicable and mutual. She did not, however, give a reason for the split.

Driver, who was born in London, met Brolin, the son of the US actor James Brolin, when they worked together on the movie Slow Burn in 1998.

Brolin has been married and divorced from actress Deborah Adair, with whom he has a daughter.

Oscars

Although not a major Hollywood star, he has worked almost steadily since the mid 80s on films for TV and the cinema.

His most notable film credits have come in recent years and include the hit sci-fi thriller The Hollow Man, in which he starred alongside Kevin Bacon.
