| Tuesday, 25 September, 2001, 15:43 GMT 16:43 UK AI takes UK box office lead ![]() Haley Joel Osment and Jude law play robots in AI Steven Spielberg's epic sci-fi movie AI (Artificial Intelligence) has stormed to the top of the UK box office in its first week of release. The futuristic film, starring Haley Joel Osment and Jude Law as robots, took �2.2m in its opening weekend.
US romance Crazy/Beautiful, starring Kirsten Dunst, was the only other new entry to make it into the top 10 film chart. The Fast and the Furious, which was a surprise hit in America earlier this year, continues to perform strongly in the UK, taking �1.3m and dropping just one place to number three.
A Knight's Tale has also slipped a place to number four, with box office receipts of �517,045, followed by horror spoof Scary Movie 2 taking �369,192. British comedy The Martins, starring Kathy Burke and Lee Evans, is at number seven earning �209,539 in its second week. Shrek, an animated tale about a green ogre, has moved up one place to number nine, 13 weeks after its release.
