| Friday, 21 September, 2001, 11:51 GMT 12:51 UK Shrek leads animation nods ![]() Shrek: A hit on both sides of the Atlantic Dreamworks' animated hit Shrek has received a dozen "Annie Award" nominations from Hollywood's International Animated Film Society. The computer-animated film was nominated for the animated theatrical feature award, and its direction and acting - for Eddie Murphy's voice role. It also received multiple nominations in the character animation, effects animation and production design categories. Close behind was Walt Disney's The Emperor's New Groove with 11 nominations - including for the animated theatrical feature award, direction, song, production design, storyboarding, writing, and the voice acting of Eartha Kitt and Patrick Warburton.
Awards will be given in 26 categories, which include features, TV programming, commercials, home video, electronic media, and shorts. One of the most prestigious awards given at the annual award ceremonies is the June Foray award, presented for special services to animation. The prize, which is named after the woman who voiced Rocky the Squirrel and many other cartoon characters, will go to Star Trek actor Leonard Nimoy, who has also been nominated for his voice work as the King of Atlantis in Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire. Other nominees include Japanese film Blood: The Last Vampire and the Warner Bros animation-live action film Osmosis Jones.
