| Friday, 21 September, 2001, 10:44 GMT 11:44 UK Stars rewrite work after US attack ![]() An "airport plot" in Friends has lost its innocence Television shows including Friends have reportedly been rewritten, while two rock bands have reworked their music in the wake of the attacks on the US. The globally popular hit TV comedy Friends had to re-shoot an episode, according to a report in Thursday's Philadelphia Inquirer.
"Two weeks ago, that would have been ridiculous - it's not ridiculous now," Friends executive producer David Crane was quoted as saying. "A lot of the comedy in it didn't feel funny, so we re-shot the story line." Another TV series, also produced by NBC, may be postponed. Aaron Sorkin, the creator of political drama The West Wing, has asked the network to postpone the show's season premire, currently scheduled for next Wednesday. Mr Sorkin is said to be concerned with how viewers will respond to the White House drama's political tone, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times. 'Valiant response' Heavily-hyped rock band The Strokes have delayed the American release of their debut album Is This It from 25 September to 9 October so as to remove a track called New York City Cops - which is believed to be less than complimentary about the force.
International editions of the album, which has already been a UK number two, will not be changed. A pop video by The Cranberries has also been withdrawn from TV and the band's website because some of the scenes echoed images from last week's events. The video was filmed in London and features shots of a plane flying over the city, and a character walking by the outline of a dead body. 'Horrific images' Record company MCA said that the video, which accompanies the band's new album Wake Up And Smell The Coffee, was being re-edited. Cranberries member Fergal Lawler posted this message to fans on their website: "The incidents in New York, Washington and elsewhere in the USA were the most horrific, saddening images I have ever seen. I've felt sick and numb since then. "I would like to offer our sincerest sympathy to anyone who was affected.''
He said that the release of the film, Collateral Damage, has now been put off indefinitely. "As soon as this happened the first thing I did was I went to the phone and I called Warner Brothers," said the Hollywood star. "I called the producers and the studio executives and I said let's get together for a meeting right away because I think our movie has to be postponed." Another film to be postponed is Disney's of Bad Company, an action-comedy starring Anthony Hopkins and Chris Rock which was due for a December release. The postponement was announced on Wednesday as the film revolves around a CIA operation and features a band of terrorists as the villains. It will now be released in 2002. |
