BBC News Online looks back at the life of the acclaimed comedian and solo performer, and presents video clips of Spike on stage and in conversation.
Spike Milligan, Harry Secombe and Peter Sellers reunited as The Goons at the BBC's radio theatre for the corporation's 50th anniversary celebrations. They performed The Last Goon Show Of All.
During a rare serious interview, Spike Milligan told the BBC's Peter France what he considered was his life's proudest achievement, and also what he considered to be his biggest failure.
Terry Wogan interviewed Spike Milligan and Harry Secombe for his show celebrating the golden years of radio comedy. The two Goons described the comical circumstances surrounding their original meeting.
In the New Year's Honours for 2001, Spike Milligan was given an honorary knighthood for services to entertainment. His response was "Help!"
