Driving ban for Emmerdale star
Actors Peter Amory and Dominic Brunt in Emmerdale
Peter Amory stars as Chris Tate (left) in Emmerdale
Emmerdale star Peter Amory was banned from driving for three weeks on Wednesday.

The 36-year-old actor, who plays millionaire Chris Tate in the soap, pleaded guilty in court to failing to give a specimen of breath after a car accident.

He was given an interim ban until 3 October at Harrogate Magistrates Court while pre-sentence reports were requested.

The court was told that Amory, who appeared under his real name of Peter Walton, crashed into several parked cars in his Land Rover Discovery at Dacre, near Harrogate on 26 August.

Peter Jeffries, prosecuting, said police went to a nearby address where Amory admitted he was the driver.

Positive

His 11-year-old son was with him at the time, the court heard.

"He was quite clearly under the influence of liquor. He gave a positive roadside test and was taken to the police station at Harrogate," said Peter Jeffries, prosecuting.

Amory was unable to provide a proper sample and blew only a small amount of breath into a breathalyser machine, the court was told.

He volunteered to give a sample later in the evening, which revealed he had 125 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. He was 90 micrograms over the legal limit.

Mr Jeffries said Amory was still 46 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath at 1125 the following morning.

Star

Amory, of Langer Hill Lane, High Birstwith, Harrogate, pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen of breath without reasonable excuse.

The case was adjourned until 3 October for completion of pre-sentence reports.

Amory has been a star of Emmerdale for 12 years

He is married to actress Claire King, who played his screen stepmother Kim Tate.
