| Sunday, 2 September, 2001, 12:05 GMT 13:05 UK Montreal honour for Chan ![]() Rush Hour was a breakthrough film for Chan Action movie hero Jackie Chan - one of Asian cinema's biggest stars - has been honoured at the Montreal World Film Festival. The martial arts expert received the special Grand Prix of the Americas on Saturday in recognition of his film-making career.
Chan, the star of films such as Who Am I? and Rush Hour, is a prolific movie-maker. He also has his own Hong Kong-based production company. Martial arts legend He studied music, dance and traditional martial arts from the age of six and performs all his own stunts. Chan is considered the successor to martial arts legend Bruce Lee and his recent hit Shanghai Noon is seen as proof of his success in Hollywood and with global audiences.
Chan's latest release is Rush Hour II. His next feature is to be a comedy action movie called Highbinders, a Hong Kong/US collaboration. Set in 1920s London, it tells the tale of a Chinese immigrant police officer who is killed in the line of duty. But he returns from the dead with supernatural powers.
