West London rocked as estimated crowds of up to 800,000 braved the heat for a spectacular show of floats, music and dance. Despite the heavy police presence, Carnival organisers dubbed it the most "relaxed" in years. ![]() Revellers were anxious to play down the police presence ![]() The carnival features some 12,000 performers and more than 100 colourful floats ![]() Parade participants in extravagant costumes wind through Notting Hill's narrow streets ![]() Watchful eye: Police have erected temporary CCTV cameras to deter would-be troublemakers ![]() And the result: a police officer examines CCTV images at New Scotland Yard ![]() Sunshine brought out crowds estimated at around 800,000 strong ![]() Some flamboyantly-dressed revellers were very glad of the sun |
